Imagine escaping Sydney's hustle and bustle with a cheese and wine cycling tour in NSW's beautiful Southern Highlands.
I recently took four women from Sydney and Wollongong one of our popular e-bike tours in Mittagong.
The ride started with the group picking up their e-bikes. These are easy to use, with the electric motors kicking in when you pedal. They make the hills a breeze and means you can focus on the Autumnal colours that are out now in the Southern Highlands.
We rode on the back streets of Mittagong and through the park, making a short stop at Australia's first Ironworks landmarks. It's a little known fact that these ironworks are still in evidence, with an archeological dig preserved underneath the local Aldi store!
Also a little known fact is that the story of Mary Poppins originated from the Southern Highlands, with the author writing the tale of childrens' beloved nanny when she got back to England.
Once we got past the town of Mittagong, we took to riding on the highway's shoulder up a steady hill (with the e-bike motors all kicking in).
We made it to Artemis Winery in good time, only 6 kilometres from Mittagong Information Centre. The rest stop was welcomed by all, with great service, a yummy cheese platter and wine tasting.
If you're interested in joining us on a wine, pie or beer tasting ride, we regularly take tours around the northern and southern ends of the Southern Highlands.
