We Have a

Passion
for Cycling

Cycle Tours NSW (CTNSW) is operated by Fred David and John Armstrong. CTNSW was established out of Fred’s passion for cycling, connecting people through meaningful relationships and wanting to share the surroundings of his hometown in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. Fred has had a career in motor mechanics and as a senior pastor, giving him the ability to teach and guide people to have a connected experience in the bike. Fred has extensive cycling experience throughout the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, NSW Southern Highlands, Western NSW and Snowy Mountains. Fred has focused on developing a platform to share his love of cycling and encourage people to explore the great outdoors on two wheels.

In 2019, together with his wife Janet, they made the decision to expand their support for the community and formed the company Igknight to invite the experience of cycling to people with disability.

Joining Cycle Tours NSW for the first time is John Armstrong. John comes with a rich background in cycling coaching (beginners to elite), coach development, athlete development (former CEO to the Illawarra Academy of Sport), cycling race direction, Cycle Tour operations and cycling advocacy across all cycling disciplines. A passionate supporter of cycling for transport, recreation and racing, John thrives on supporting emerging riders and those that are embarking upon the love of cycling alike. Combined with his passion for showing off some of the unique cycling gems of the region, we are excited to embrace John into the enterprise.

Igknight and CTNSW offer a unique service of guided cycle tours along with a social enterprise, by a community service element of sourcing disused or new bikes. The disused bikes are repaired and serviced by volunteers, making them ready to hand out to vulnerable people who would otherwise not be able to afford one. Group rides are offered to those needing connection, increasing opportunities to reduce social isolation and increase health and well-being. The tourism business creates unforgettable experiences by exploring the beauty of the Illawarra, Southern Highlands, Snowy Mountains, or other regions in a guided cycle tour of your choice.

Mike Tomalaris supports the CTNSW experience and brings his passion for connecting people and offering unique experiences. Australian television reporter and presenter, Mike Tomalaris, the face of the Tour de France on SBS for many years, supports Cycle Tours NSW for the Tour of Wollongong (2024 event yet to be scheduled).

CTNSW is considerate of everyone’s riding ability and will do everything possible to ensure that all guests have a great experience with an optional e-bike, tandem bike and recumbent cycle options.

Igknight offers services to people with disability who need assistance in connecting and reducing isolation by offering meaningful community access with a mentor that suits each individual. We want to inspire Passion, Purpose and Potential. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can approve funding to eligible participants of the scheme to access Igknight services. We can also provide services to privately funded participants. Some examples of igKnight support include: support at a gym, swimming, bush walking or cycling on a tandem, building capacity to access suitable services e.g. travel training on public transport and developing skills to build social confidence e.g. companionship and mentoring to increase social skills. Our staff have experience in a wide field of disability types. We are happy to hear everyone’s story and see how we can provide support.
