About us.
Local riders. Expert coaches. Community at heart.
Cycle Tours NSW began with one simple idea: the Illawarra and Southern Highlands are some of the best places in the world to ride a bike, and everyone deserves to experience them safely and with confidence. Today we teach young people to ride e-bikes safely, guide groups on the region's best roads, and use cycling to connect our community.
Safety first — every ride and every course starts with a bike check and a briefing.
Everyone's welcome — e-bikes, tandems and recumbents mean no one gets left behind.
Local knowledge — we ride these roads every week.
Community — every ride helps fund bikes and group rides for people who need them.
Our Values.
Meet the founders.
Fred David — Co-founder and Guide
Fred founded Cycle Tours NSW out of a lifelong passion for cycling, for building real relationships, and for sharing the landscapes of his hometown, Wollongong. A career as a motor mechanic means he knows bikes inside out, and years as a senior pastor have given him a rare gift for teaching, guiding and looking after people. Fred has ridden extensively across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands, Western NSW and the Snowy Mountains.
In 2019, Fred and his wife Janet founded Igknight to open up cycling and community access to people with disability.
John Armstrong — Co-founder, Coach and Guide
John brings one of the deepest cycling backgrounds in the region. He has coached riders from complete beginners to elite athletes, led coach and athlete development programs, and served as CEO of the Illawarra Academy of Sport. He has directed cycling races, run cycle tour operations, and advocated for cycling across every discipline. John is passionate about cycling for transport, recreation and racing — and especially about supporting young and emerging riders. He leads our kids' e-bike safety program.
