Overview.
Not every great ride needs a mountain. The coastal shared path south from Wollongong Harbour follows the shoreline past the lighthouse, the beaches and golf course, through Port Kembla and out to Windang and the entrance of Lake Illawarra. It's flat, scenic and almost entirely away from traffic — the perfect introduction to riding in the Illawarra.
The Route.
Start at Belmore Basin and roll south past Wollongong Lighthouse, Flagstaff Hill and the beaches. Follow the coastal path through Port Kembla to Windang, then explore the foreshore of Lake Illawarra before returning the same way.
What to expect.
It's a shared path: ride at walking pace around people, ring your bell, and pass wide.
A great family route for putting the safe-riding habits from our kids' course into practice.
Can be windy along the exposed sections.
