Overview.
This is our home loop, and it shows off everything that makes riding around Shellharbour and Kiama special: ocean views, rolling green dairy country, and the tiny village of Jamberoo tucked under the escarpment. It's a steady rather than savage ride — ideal for fit social riders and visiting groups.
The Route.
From Shellharbour Village, head south through Barrack Point and Shell Cove to Dunmore, cross the Minnamurra River and follow the coast through Kiama Downs and Bombo into Kiama. Stop at Kiama Harbour and the Blowhole, then turn inland on Jamberoo Road through the Jamberoo Valley to Jamberoo village. Return north via Swamp Road to Dunmore and back to Shellharbour.
What to expect.
Short punchy hills through Kiama Downs and around Kiama Harbour.
Gently rolling farmland through the Jamberoo Valley with the escarpment towering above.
Swamp Road is quieter but narrow — watch for farm vehicles.
Key points.
Make it harder: add Saddleback Mountain from Kiama, or ride to the base of Jamberoo Mountain Road and back.
Make it easier: start from Kiama and ride the valley section only (~25 km).
Kiama is busy on summer weekends — take care around the Blowhole and harbour.
Coffee and food.
Shellharbour Village cafés, Kiama Harbour and Terralong Street, and the Jamberoo Pub or village café for a mid-ride stop.
